Moving With Children

Moving with Children    Moving a child to a new place can be a traumatic experience for them if you don't know how to handle it properly.  They may be leaving behind long time friends, relatives, their school, and sometimes they may have to even leave their pets behind.  It is very important to do everything in your power to help them make an easy transition to their new home.

I have some great tips and information that will help you help your child adjust to their new home.  If there is any information that I have left out or you have any questions, please contact me.

Tips for Moving with Children:
  • Make sure they feel involved in the move.   Have them pack their own belongings so that they know that they are part of the move and that their things will be waiting for them.
  • Schedule some time for them to spend with family and friends.
  • Help them create and address book so that they can keep in touch with their friends and family.
  • Schedule goodbye visits to some of their favorite places. (i.e. last visit to the park, the library, their school)
  • Get out a map and show them where you will be moving to.
  • Surf the web with them and show them some of the tourist attraction sites as well as have them participate in fun online moving games.
  • Have quality time together as a family.
  • Try to keep your child's schedule as normal as possible before, during and after the move.  The less variance in schedule the less stress your child will experience
  • Have them take pictures of the places and people that they will miss so that they can always pull out the picture to look at when their feeling sad.
  • Talk to them and let them know how things are going with the move.  It's no use hiding your feelings.  If your honest with them, they will feel better confiding their own fears in you.

Moving can be fun.  To prove it, I have a few fun web links to some sites for you and your children to enjoy.
