Woodland Park (WPK)
Woodland Park has become a city where modern convenience meets historic charm. The city is located on a high, broad plateau between 8,200 and 9,000 feet and offers "the best view of Pikes Peak". It is also at the junction of Ute Pass and a valley system that extends north of the city, providing a well-drained town site and favorable access to Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak to the southeast, Denver to the north, and mountain recreation areas in all directions. The town takes its name from the thickly wooded hills and valleys on every side. Stately pines and spruce form a perfect forest miles around. Pikes Peak, with her colossal sheds stand against the blue sky, snowy crest peeking above the clouds. The canyon of Fountain Creek, with its rugged borders, flows to the plain. The easy access to all of this through Ute Pass gives Woodland Park a unique place among the State resort areas. Woodland Park presents an interesting combination of ranch, mining, and tourist activities and affords a quicker and more scenic avenue to some of Colorado's best skiing. Some major grocery, retail, and restaurant chain stores exist in Woodland Park. This area has a strong appeal to most people as it offers a mountain-living life style somewhat removed from the normal characteristics of city/suburban living. Differences in weather conditions, vegetation, higher elevations, as well as limited sunlight in some areas, present a considerable range of living conditions. Because of the closeness to Colorado Springs, the communities of Cascade, Chipita Park and Green Mountain Falls attract many newcomers seeking the peace of beauty of the mountains. Most residents work in Colorado Springs and in retail and services in the surrounding communities. Hikers and campers know they have found their paradise in the rugged mountains in the Ute Pass area. Well-groomed hiking trails, horse back riding and mountain bikers flock to the area to experience the wilderness of the Pike National Forest for themselves The average commute to the Springs is about 20-45 minutes depending on how high up the Pass you are located. The higher you go up the Pass of course, the higher the elevation. Woodland Park is about 8,500 ft., making the weather conditions there quite different from Colorado Springs. Zip Code: 80863.
