A Brief look at the Ute Pass Area (UTE)
(Woodland Park, Cascade, Chipita Park, and Green Mountain Falls)

Consisting of Woodland Park, Divide, Cascade, Chipita Park and Green Mountain Falls, Ute pass was once traveled by the Ute Indians and later became a wagon route and the railroad opened up access to the Cripple Creek gold fields. The communities supplied lumber for the mines, railroad ties and construction materials.

Woodland Park is the largest city in Teller County. A residential community, it benefits greatly from the tourism industry. The city looks forward to the new 428-acre golf course and country club as well as the development of 222 homesites, a hotel and townhomes by the Fujiki Corporation.

West of Woodland Park is Divide. It sits atop Ute Pass. A gateway to Cripple Creek, Victor mining and gambling districts, Divide is a part of the Woodland Park district and hopes to promote more residential and business development. A new public park is already in the works.

Closer to Colorado Springs, the communities of Cascade, Chipita Park and Green Mountain Falls attract many newcomers seeking the peace of beauty of the mountains. These sites were once summer homes for the influential and housed several world famous hotels and were water stops for stagecoaches and railroads. Most residents work in Colorado Springs and in retail and services in the surrounding communities.

Hikers and campers know they have found their paradise in the rugged mountains in the Ute Pass area. Well-groomed hiking trails, horse back riding and mountain bikers flock to the area to experience the wilderness of the Pike National Forest for themselves.
