Old Colorado City (OCC)
Old Colorado City extends from Colorado College west to Manitou Springs. Colorado Avenue between 21st and 31st streets, was founded in 1859, 12 years before Colorado Springs. The town boomed in the 1880s after General Palmer's railroad came through. Tunnels led from the respectable side of town to this saloon and red-light district so that the city fathers could carouse without being seen coming or going--or so the legend goes . Picturesque homes stand proudly all around the quaint old downtown established in 1859. Festivals and parades abound in this historic rich, beautifully preserved neighborhood. The Old Colorado Historic District is an extraordinary blend of heritage and architecture. In the historic restored buildings one will find restaurants, art galleries, studios, and specialty shops surrounded by Victorian homes, and older, smaller homes that have been lovingly cared for as well as some turn-of-the-century homes on quiet streets lined with large trees. School district 49. Zip codes: 80915,80929. Major Sub Areas: Old Colorado City, West Side, Mesa Terrace, Broadway Terrace, Skyline, Anthony Bott, Monument, Downtown Central, Glen View, Botts, Parrish-Addition, Bear Creek, Mesa Terrace, Mesa Heights, Panorama Estates, Crown Hill, High Point Gardens, Ramona |
